OSU trombonists win international competitions
The OSU Seretean Trombone Quartet was selected best of 29 quartets from around the world at the finals of the 2010 International Trombone Association Competitions held in Austin, Tex., July 7-10.
Members of the quartet are seniors Isaac Washam, Stillwater; Steven Warren, Ponca City; Noel Seals, Tulsa; and Steven Jessup, Virginia Beach, Va.
Caleb Ketcham, freshman from Tyler, TX, was also selected winner from a field of 12 competitors in the George Roberts Bass Trombone Competition.
The quartet was awarded $1,000 in prize money, and Ketcham won a Nirschl H-700 Dual Use Trombone.
The OSU Trombone Quartet outperformed quartets from around the world to take first
place, including the Royal Academy of Music and Art in Aarhus, Denmark, University
of Michigan School of Music, Curtis Institute of Music, Northwestern University School
of Music, Rotterdam Conservatory and the University of North Texas.
The OSU Trombone Studio has won six International Trombone Association Competitions
since 2006. Isaac Washam won the Gilberto Gagliardi Competition in 2006. The OSU Trombone
Octet won the Emory Remington Trombone Ensemble Competition in 2008. Steven Warren
won the George Roberts Competition in 2008, and Jason Cash won the Larry Wiehe Competition
in 2009. Only the Juilliard School of Music and the University of North Texas College
of Music have more total ITA competition titles.
