OSU Zoology to add field research center
The Oklahoma State University Zoology Department has received $350,000 to construct a new field research center at Lake Carl Blackwell. The OSU Vice President for Research Office has provided $250,000 through its Core Facilities and Facility Renovation Program, and the remainder was matched by private funds.
“Zoology has a long history of conducting cutting edge field research and the facility will allow that to be elevated, and ultimately make the department more competitive for funding from various federal, state, and nongovernmental agencies,” said Loren Smith, department head.
The facility will include a 6,000 sq. ft. building, a fenced area and a storage space for boats, vehicles, and trailers. The building will house 18 bays that will be assigned to zoology faculty members for research as well as a long central hallway that can be used to set up field experiments and construct experimental field materials.
The construction timeline for the facility is still being determined. It will be located southwest of the lake headquarters about a half mile north of highway 51 on Cimarron Road.
