Police continue investigation of off-campus shooting Monday night

Tuesday, November 9, 2010

Oklahoma State University police continue to work with Stillwater Police in the search for the suspect from Monday night’s shooting of an OSU student in his off-campus home at 417 N. Lincoln.  Stillwater and OSU Police responded to a report of a man being shot in the leg at 9:05 p.m.

The victim in the case has been identified as Kacy Cook an OSU junior from Grapevine, Tex.  He was treated at Stillwater Medical Center for a gunshot wound to the upper leg

Witnesses reported seeing the suspect running north of the crime scene toward the OSU campus.  Because of the proximity of the crime scene to the Greek community and campus, OSU immediately notified fraternity and sorority houses and residential halls and requested they activate emergency procedures, including a lockdown if appropriate.

In addition, OSU activated its emergency voice notification system.  More than 20,000 warning calls were made and 95 percent of those were successfully received within 18 minutes.  To sign up for OSU emergency alerts, log into your O-Key account or go to http://safety.okstate.edu/ and click on “Alert Sign-up”.  If you are registered and didn’t receive the alert you should make a report to alert@okstate.edu.

The Stillwater Police Department is leading the investigation.  The suspect is described as a black male, with a small amount of facial hair under his chin, early 20’s, 6ft. 2 in., weighing around 230lbs.  He was last seen wearing a gray hoodie, blue jeans and black/green backpack.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Criminal Investigative Division of the Stillwater Police Department at 405-372-4171 or Crime Stoppers
