Architecture building receives top accolades

The Donald W. Reynolds School of Architecture building received an American Institute of Architects Oklahoma Honor Award for outstanding design on Thursday, Nov. 3.  The award was presented during the bi-annual AIA Oklahoma Design Awards ceremony held in Stillwater, in conjunction with the two-day annual AIA Oklahoma State Architects Convention.

Over 80 entries were evaluated, with the following awards given: three honor awards (the highest recognition), five merit awards, and two citation awards.  The entries had to either be buildings constructed in Oklahoma or buildings constructed outside of Oklahoma, but designed by Oklahoma-based architects.

“This is indeed a significant honor,” said Khaled Gasem, Interim Dean, College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology.  “We are proud of this accomplishment for our esteemed Architecture school and students.”

The judging panel was made up of three nationally known architects from around the US, who praised the overall quality of the entries, and were particularly impressed with the Donald W. Reynolds School of Architecture building. All awards will be put on display in a gallery show next semester within the Donald W. Reynolds School of Architecture Building.

The AIA Oklahoma Awards of Excellence Program has a long tradition of recognizing outstanding architectural designs. The purpose of these awards is to “increase public awareness of architecture by recognizing outstanding projects, their architects and clients, to increase the public and client demand for quality design and to encourage the profession to pursue the highest standards of design.”
