Freshman Friday: Lauren Foley

Thursday, January 13, 2011

Oklahoma State University is offering  a closer look into the lives of its freshmen students. Each Friday, one freshman will be highlighted on the OSU Facebook page as part of the "Freshman Friday" feature. The freshmen profiles will share students' first impressions and experiences at OSU and create a unique way for others to get to know first-year students. If this is your first year at OSU and you want to participate in "Freshman Friday," please contact Amy Wilson at amy.k.wilson10@okstate.edu.

Lauren Foley
Age: 19
Hometown: Tulsa
Major: Zoology/Spanish
Classification: Freshman

Why did you choose to attend OSU?
I was very impressed with the opportunities that I would have in the zoology department at OSU. I also visited campus a few times and fell in love with the friendly atmosphere and beautiful campus.

What has been your favorite experience so far?
Homecoming was awesome! I got to help decorate my dorm, Stout, and since I am a member of the Kappa Delta sorority, we built an amazing house deck with the Lambda Chi fraternity members. It was a lot of hard work, but it was so much fun seeing the rest of the homecoming decorations and meeting alumni during Walk Around.

What do you wish you would have known before coming to college?
I wish I would have known to bring my bike from the beginning. It makes getting around campus so much faster. Also, start studying for finals week really early because dead week is not dead, and finals week will get here faster than you think.

What changes do you hope to see during your years at OSU?
I'm sure we could all appreciate more parking for cars and bikes that is closer to our dorms.

Where do you see yourself after graduation?
Right now I am looking to attend Physician's Assistant School. However, after getting involved in undergraduate research through Freshman Research Scholars, I am also looking into medical research.

What advice would you give to high school seniors who are thinking about coming to OSU?
Visit campus. It's what finally narrowed down my decision, and ask around to find out all the ways you can get involved. I've really enjoyed President¹s Leadership Council, Freshman Representative Council, Freshman Research Scholars, OSU Symphonic Orchestra and Greek Life! If you get the chance, go to Walk Around!
