Green honored with prestigious engineering scholarship

Wednesday, October 5, 2011

Micah Green of Hugo, Okla. was recently awarded the W.W. Allen Boys & Girls Club Scholarship by the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology at Oklahoma State University. Recognized for being one of a kind, the scholarship awards an incoming freshman $15,000 per year for up to four years of study toward a bachelor’s degree in engineering while also providing several unique educational and leadership development opportunities.

One individual a year is chosen for the scholarship, which is designed to benefit an active member of the Boys & Girls Club who wishes to pursue educational goals in the field of engineering.

“I believe that the engineering field will be a great adventure that will inspire and bring out my greatest potential,” said Green. “I hope to make a positive impact on the world.”

Green, a freshman at OSU majoring in engineering, is the fourth recipient of this scholarship to date. He was valedictorian of his graduating class at Hugo High School, where he was active with the Boys & Girls Club, a member of the National Honor Society, and participated in World Changers Mission Trips. He is the son of William and Becky Green.

Funding for the Scholarship comes from a generous donation by W. Wayne Allen, retired CEO and chairman of the Phillips Petroleum Company. Allen was once a member of the Boys & Girls Club of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, and previous National Advisory Board member. He credits the Boys & Girls Club with providing him an unusual opportunity for personal growth.

In addition to providing a premier scholarship, related activities accelerate professional and leadership development by offering internships and insightful opportunities in corporate, educational and geographic settings that stimulate intellectual growth, develop career awareness and cultural perspectives, while also enhancing interpersonal skills.
