Honors College has ice cream social for honor students

The Honors College joined with the Provost’s office to welcome this year’s honor students with the annual fall semester ice cream social.  

“The Provost’s Honors Ice Cream Social is always a great kickoff event for the fall during which new and returning students have a chance to congratulate Honors College award recipients and mingle informally with the faculty and staff over ice cream,” Robert Spurrier, Director of The Honors College, said.

One purpose is to recognize all honor students who have completed an honors award in the previous summer or spring semester.  Most students completed their General Honors Award.  Some of the students completed their College or Departmental Honors Award or their Honors College Degree.

“At the social we allow the students receiving awards to announce their major and the award that they are receiving,” said Brent Ladd. Honors Academic Counselor.  “Then they are handed their certificate and take their picture with the Provost.”

The ice cream social allows students to meet other honors students and professors who teach honors courses, helping build relationships that will last throughout the students’ college careers and beyond.
