Honors student elected to national board

Emily Jones named to national board

OSU sophomore Emily Jones was recently elected to a two-year term on the Board of Directors of the National Collegiate Honors Council. Jones, from Overland Park, Kan., is pursuing an Honors College Degree with a double major in nutritional sciences and physiology. She plans to attend medical school following graduation.

“We are delighted NCHC’s voting membership has elected Emily to this position,” said OSU Honors College Director Dr. Robert Spurrier.  “I am certain that she will do an outstanding job as one of six student members of our 24-member NCHC Board of Directors.”

Jones received a four-year President’s Distinguished Scholarship, was an OSU Freshman Research Scholar, and was selected for OSU’s highly competitive Scholar Development Program summer seminar at Cambridge University in the United Kingdom in 2011. In addition, she is the recipient of a Wentz Leadership Scholarship for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Jones was a member of the Freshman Representative Council and also serves on the OSU Student Alumni Board. She was assistant marketing director for Toys for Cowboys in 2010 and vice chair in 2011 for the program which obtains toys donated at football games for distribution to inner-city children.
