Oklahoma State University’s NASA Education Projects Office has been selected as the
implementation partner for the NASA Kennedy Space Center’s Educators Resource Center
for the next five years, NASA announced today. The funding level for the upcoming
five years is currently set for $2.25 million and brings OSU NASA Education Project
grants to more than $40 million.
The ERC is located at Kennedy Space Center’s Visitors Center, which has over a million
visitors each year. The Center serves educators throughout the region, including Florida,
Georgia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
“Under the direction of Dr. Ken Wiggins, OSU started innovative, hands-on STEM (science,
technology, engineering and mathematics) segments for KSC’s ERC in the early 1980’s,”
Dr. Steve Marks, Principal Investigator for OSU’s NASA Education Projects, indicated.
“Today, his innovative work continues and OSU is positioned to enhance the legacy
for years to come.”
OSU has more than 40 years of experience in educational partnerships with NASA. Currently,
the University manages four grants from NASA Education with a total funding amount
of more than $38 million. OSU operates NASA’s Teaching from Space Project at NASA
Johnson Space Center; the NASA Explorer Schools Project at NASA Glenn Research Center;
the NASA Digital Learning Network Project at NASA Langley Research Center; and the
NASA INSPIRE Project at NASA Kennedy Space Center.
