OSU Aviation programs gain new accreditation

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

Oklahoma State University has gained initial accreditation from the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI) for its Aviation Management and Professional Pilot degree options in the College of Education’s Aerospace Administration and Operations program area.
The process, from application through achieving accreditation, took nearly two years, and OSU received accreditation in the two areas for which it applied.

AABI is a specialized aviation accreditation that enhances other accreditations, such as accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission, a Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.   OSU is now one of 32 institutions with AABI accredited programs.  There are over 110 universities/colleges that offer aviation programs.  AABI accreditation exceeds, but does not remove existing federal mandates for collegiate aviation programs.

“We are very pleased these two programs are recognized at the international level for accreditation,” Dr. C. Robert Davis, College of Education Interim Dean, said.  “The recognition is a reaffirmation of OSU’s commitment to preparing students for the aerospace industry.”

“This accreditation brings pride to the School of Educational Studies, the College of Education, as well as to Oklahoma State University,” Dr. Katye Perry, Interim School Head for the School of Educational Studies, said.

“Our AABI accreditation is a victory for outcomes-based education and a win for OSU, as we endeavor to prepare our professional pilot students for flight jobs and our aviation management students for jobs in the aerospace industry in the great state of Oklahoma and across the nation,” Dr. Todd Hubbard, Program Coordinator for Aviation and Space, said. “I want to thank the faculty, staff and administrators for their contributions toward this realized goal.”
