OSU College of Human Environmental Sciences celebrates student and faculty excellence

The College of Human Environmental Sciences at Oklahoma State University honored students, faculty and staff recently during the 2011 Celebration of Excellence.  Including the awards given during the evening’s program, more than $250,000 in scholarship funds was awarded to 119 undergraduate and 24 graduate students for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Lauren Oseland, a human development and family science major from Edmond, Okla., was named the College of Human Environmental Sciences Outstanding Undergraduate Student.  Krista Shawron, a master’s degree student in nutritional sciences, and Hujui Park, a Ph.D. candidate in design, housing and merchandising, were named Outstanding Graduate Students.

The 2011 CHES Seniors of Excellence were design, housing and merchandising students Paivy Pedersen, Edmond, Okla., and Tori Bryant, Houston, Tex.; hotel and restaurant administration students Jonathan Chandler, Lee’s Summit, Mo., and Alea Sharp, Stillwater, Okla.; human development and family science students Courtney Hargis, Mooreland, Okla., Madison McKnight, Chickasha, Okla., and Maura Dean, Edmond, Okla.; and nutritional sciences students Andrea Richardson, McAlester, Okla. and Teresa Richert, Tulsa, Okla.

Nutritional Sciences Assistant Professor Stephen Clarke received the Marguerite Scruggs Award for Early Career Meritorious Research. 

Nicole Miller, senior academic counselor in the Patricia Kain Knaub Center for Student Success, was named the Outstanding Undergraduate Academic Advisor. 

Hotel and Restaurant Administration Associate Professor and Graduate Coordinator Murat Hancer was selected as the Outstanding Graduate Faculty Mentor.
