Friday, January 28, 2011

The Oklahoma State University Global Briefings series is bringing Jack Welch, former chairman and CEO of General Electric, to the Stillwater campus on Monday, Feb. 21 from 3:30-5 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena. The program is offered by the OSU Student Government Association (SGA), the OSU Spears School of Business, the OSU President's Office, and the OSU School of International Studies.

"Jack Welch is a business leader that will help our students understand how business operates and the management challenges that leaders face," said Burns Hargis, OSU President. “We are pleased to offer our students and the community the opportunity to learn from a speaker of his caliber.”

Welch is the award-winning author of Winning, a number one Wall Street Journal and international bestseller. Welch began his career with GE in 1960, and in 1981 became the company’s eighth chairman and chief executive officer. During his 20 plus year tenure as CEO, the company’s market capitalization rose from $13 billion to $400 billion. In 1999, Fortune Magazine named Welch “Manager of the Century.” Welch is currently the head of Jack Welch, LLC, where he serves as Special Partner with the private equity firm, Clayton, Dubilier & Rice and is a consultant to IAC (Interactive Corp).

Larry Crosby, Dean of the OSU Spears School of Business, will be conducting the interview with Jack Welch. "General Electric has been an organization known for its innovation, and we look forward to hearing Mr. Welch's views on organizations and how leadership can affect a company's position in the marketplace," noted Crosby.

Admission is free for OSU students, faculty and staff with an OSU ID card.  For the public, tickets are $10 if purchased in advance or $15 at the door. Please refer to the website at iso.okstate.edu for more information or to purchase guest tickets for the Jack Welch event.
