OSU students receive Gilman Scholarships
Three OSU students have been awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to participate in a study abroad program during 2011 – 2012 academic year. Audrey Bridgers, Spanish major, will travel to Argentina and Peru. Lindsey Sieber, studio art major, will go to South Koreau. Collin Nolte, finance and economics major with a minor in entrepreneurship, will study in China. Gilman scholars receive up to $5,000 to apply toward their study abroad program.
“When students are given the opportunity to study abroad they come back with a global perspective and educational experiences that inspire intellectual growth,” said David Henneberry, associate vice president, International Studies and Outreach. “International education is a great tool for developing a common understanding, building connections and encouraging studnets to be a contributor, rather than an observer in the international community.”
The Gilman Scholarship Program aims to diversify the kinds of students who study abroad and the countries and regions where they go. The program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the Institute of International Education’s Southern Regional Center in Houston, Texas.
