OSU team places at robotics contest
OSU students Ryan Atkins, Majid Al-Sarmi, Craig Gebhard, and Kevin Vo designed and built an autonomous, mobile robot that took sixth place in a field of 35 in the 2011 Region 5 Robotics contest held April 16 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The goal at the contest was for the robot to collect a large enough electrical charge at one of three charging stations to be the fastest to raise a flag with the charge. The OSU Electrical and Computer Engineering Senior Design 2 Team’s best score of one minute and 57 seconds just missed the cutoff to advance to the third and final round by seven seconds, but was good enough for sixth place.
“We were disappointed we didn't win, but we were also pretty happy with our performance given that we only started work on our robot this semester, while the winning team started work on theirs in the fall,” said Atkins. “Besides, we beat OU!”
The team’s adviser is Dr. George Scheets. For a video of the team’s best run click on the following link http://dl.dropbox.com/u/129642/video-2011-04-16-11-16-17.mp4
