OSU Transit releases GPS tracking system
Friday, October 28, 2011
In an effort to further enhance service for THE BUS, OSU Department of Parking and Transit Services is providing a new bus tracking system called THE BUS TRAX. Students can go online to see current locations of buses and get real-time updates for the arrival of the nearest bus.
The program was made possible through a partnership with Ride Systems, a company founded by a former transit driver at Utah State University.
In addition to the website, riders can view the map on their smart phones through the mobile site or by downloading an app operating on both iPhone and Android platforms. In addition to the app, riders can send a text message for each bus stop and in seconds receive the estimated time of arrival of each bus at the stop.
The goal of this program is that riders will never have to miss THE BUS. Steve Spradling, Director of Parking and Transit Services, said, “We want to give our passengers the assurance that they can always rely on THE BUS for their transportation needs. By using THE BUS TRAX, passengers can be confident in knowing when their bus will arrive. ” To view the website go to thebus.okstate.edu.
For the Android and iPhone app, download the Ride Systems app and select Oklahoma State University.
For text message services, text: “thebus” and the stop number to 41411.
Stop numbers can be found via thebus.okstate.edu.
