Several OSU construction and expansion projects receive approval from Board of Regents

Friday, April 22, 2011

Several major projects on the Stillwater campus and another on the Okmulgee campus gained approval to start or move forward from the OSU/A&M Board of Regents Friday.

Regents selected SAIC, LLC, Tulsa as the design and construction consultant to assist the university in the rebuilding of Monroe Street, a key artery on the Stillwater campus.

The $4.5 million project will include much-needed upgrades to the road base and improvements to the street’s infrastructure, including storm drains, sanitary sewer and electrical and water lines.  Also included in the project are pedestrian enhancements, including a pedestrian friendly plaza in the stretch of Monroe that is closed during high-traffic periods in the fall and spring semesters.

Regents also approved Studio Architecture, Oklahoma City  as architect and  Lambert Construction Co., Stillwater as construction manager to assist in the construction and design of the Academic Center of the Center for Veterinary Health Sciences.  The estimated $12.2 million project will be an extension to the Teaching Hospital and will provide teaching, meeting, and office spaces, including a high-tech auditorium.

In addition, LWPB Architecture, Oklahoma City was named architect and CMS Willowbrook Construction, Oklahoma construction manager for the expansion and renovation of the Human Environmental Sciences Building in Stillwater.

The project will expand the current facility of 108,350 square feet to approximately 300,000 square feet and will include the renovation of the existing building and construction of an addition on the north side of the current facility.

Regents also gave OSU the approval Friday to begin the selection process for an architect and construction manager to assist in the design and construction of a performing arts center and the possible renovation of the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts.  A master plan is being finalizing for the project, which would be funded by private donations.

In addition, the board gave approval to begin the process to select a construction manager to assist in the design and construction of the Energy Center Building at the OSU Institute of Technology in Okmulgee.
