Official Hat Kicks Off Exclusive Partnership with School’s Rodeo Team

Shorty’s Caboy Hattery, located in historical Stockyard City in Oklahoma City, announced today the presentation to Oklahoma State University’s First Lady, Ann Hargis, with a signature OSU Rodeo Hat as a part of an exclusive partnership between Shorty’s and the  OSU Rodeo Team.

Shorty’s, established in 1991, specializes in custom fit cowboy hats, restoration and design, as well as a variety of other customization services. Owner, Lavonna “Shorty” Koger is an Oklahoma native with over 40 years of master hatter experience in restoration, fitting, sewing and design of cowboy hats. Shorty’s hats remain world-famous and are sought-after for their attention to detail, intricate sewing process and signature beaver fur and beaver fur blends. Some of Shorty’s most famous customers include actors and entertainers such as Mark Harmon, Lyle Lovett, Reba McIntire, Kyle Petty and Dan Rather.

Originally, Ms. Koger was approached by OSU after a request was made by Ann Hargis, wife of OSU President Burns Hargis, for a custom hat during his arrival in spring of 2009. Afterwards, Mrs. Hargis requested her own cowboy hat, designed in OSU Orange, and invited Shorty’s to partner with OSU as a licensed vendor and participant at the annual OSU pre-game Hall of Fame Block Party.

This year, Shorty’s celebrates its 20th anniversary and wanted to develop a series of signature, one-of-a kind hats for the occasion.  The new 100X beaver, handmade orange and black leather hat was custom made for Mrs. Hargis and originally started as a personal gift between the two friends. However, earlier in the year, Koger, a former rodeo rider,  was approached by the Rodeo Team regarding becoming an exclusive partner and a decision was made to roll-out the hat as a part of the partnership, starting with the presentation to Mrs. Hargis. The deal also includes honoring a student annually as a “Shorty’s Superstar” who will be a recipient of the signature hat as well.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled with Shorty’s partnership and support of our students and the entire OSU family,” said Mrs Hargis. “I’ve always been a fan of Shorty, both personally and professionally, so just like her hats…we thought it would be the perfect fit.”

The hat will also be released for sale to the public for women and men starting end of October with a variety of custom made styles and hand-crafted OSU accessories. A percentage from the official hat sales will go directly to the Rodeo Team.

Shorty’s is headquartered at 1206 South Agnew Avenue in Oklahoma City. For additional information on ordering the signature OSU hat or on Shorty’s custom hats, services, apparel and accessories, call 405.232.4287 or visit shortyshattery.com.
