Sorority community invites new organization

Tuesday, May 3, 2011

Alpha Omicron Pi has accepted the Panhellenic Council’s invitation to colonize at Oklahoma State University, providing a much-needed additional option for OSU’s growing Greek community.

“The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs is incredibly proud of the Panhellenic Association’s dedication to growing the community,” said Liz Osborne, coordinator of OSU Fraternity and Sorority affairs.   “Further, we are especially thrilled to welcome Alpha Omicron Pi into the community.  This is a significant moment in the history of the Oklahoma State Greek community.”

Throughout the selection process, Christine Harris, Panhellenic President and Extension Committee Chair, said OSU was committed to choosing an exceptional organization that fit the values of OSU and could smoothly integrate into the existing Panhellenic Association and Greek Community at large.  “We were delighted to invite Alpha Omicron Pi,” said Harris.

“Alpha Omicron Pi is thrilled to accept your invitation to colonize a chapter at OSU,” said  Troy LeForge, Executive Director of Alpha Omicron Pi International Headquarters. “It is our honor to be selected to join a university and Panhellenic community so rich in heritage, tradition, and commitment towards fostering the ideals and meaning of fraternity. We recognize and value your Panhellenic Association's success in advancing exceptional collegiate experiences at OSU.  The spirit of collaboration and appreciation demonstrated among Panhellenic members and the entire OSU family is indeed impressive. Alpha Omicron Pi fully embraces the privilege and responsibility to become an outstanding partner and friend within both your extraordinary Greek community and University. It is AOII's sincere hope that we steadfastly merit this honor and Exceed the Expectation.”

Alpha Omicron Pi will begin official colonization into the Greek community in the spring 2012 semester, after publicizing its efforts in fall 2011.  “The Greek community at large is thrilled to accept and support the new members of Alpha Omicron Pi and will continue to encourage Panhellenic spirit throughout the colonization process,” said Harris.

“I am so excited to see how the Oklahoma State Greek Community will foster the growth of Alpha Omicron Pi,” said  Emmy Hann, International Business and Spanish senior and member of Chi Omega sorority. “I know that it will prosper because the people within the Greek system are incredible and always willing to help and encourage one another.  Adding Alpha Omicron Pi is a great way to strengthen our Panhellenic sisterhood and I can’t wait to see how it evolves.”
