This was the first year in the 16-year history of the national conference that students
were honored and OSU received two of the 13 awards presented. Another Oklahoman, Courtney
Garcia, an OK-LSAP scholar from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, was honored
with an award for outstanding research.
In addition to the award winners, seven former and current OSU students received
nominations for student awards including Andrew Mock, zoology graduate; Cassandra
Camp, biological sciences major; Darron J. Lamkin, M.S. candidate in engineering;
J. Conner Ferguson, plant and soil sciences graduate; Lauren White, zoology major;
Nicole Bryant, M.S. candidate in botany; and Vicky Kelly, entomology major.
The event is sponsored by the Career Communications Group, and the Women of Color
Conference Development Institute for Emerging Leaders, which aims to create a forum
where high-achieving, goal-oriented students majoring in science, technology, engineering
and mathematics disciplines can learn, interact, and connect with career coaches at
CCG events.
