Undergrad Research Profile- Rosalina Yorks
Hometown: El Dorado, Kansas
Major and College: College of Arts and Sciences
Research Project: Linking population genetics and enzyme kinetics to understand the impacts of thermal
pollution in Sooner Lake
Assisting faculty member: Punidan Jeyasingh, Ph.D.
Which research award did you receive?
Received Freshman Research Scholarship and Niblack. Currently have Wentz Scholar Award.
What have you gained from your research experience?
Participating in undergraduate research has opened me up to several new career ideas.
I originally came to OSU with the intent of going to vet school. Now I look forward
to attending graduate school and having a career in research either in academia or
a national lab.
What has been your experience with the faculty you have been working with on the
project?
Working with Dr. Jeyasingh has been an amazing experience. He treats me as a graduate
student and has exposed me to several different experiments and research ideas in
the lab. He has given me the opportunity to conduct my own research and given me hands-on
experience with both experiments and scientific writing.
How do you think this experience will prepare you for your chosen field after college?
It has been very important to my college experience. College is the time to figure
out what you want to do with your life and participating in as many opportunities
as possible is the way to figure it out. If I had never participated in research,
I would most likely never thought of a future in it.
