The campus community has ready access to health care services at Oklahoma State University,
thanks to University Health Services, a full-service clinic staffed with five physicians
and a physician associate. UHS also houses a laboratory, X-Ray and a pharmacy. The
convenience of having all of these services under one roof is unique to medical care
on a college campus.
“For most students, it’s a one-stop trip,” said Steve Rogers, director of UHS. “What’s
unique about UHS, and college health in general, is our accessibility. You can walk
in and be seen by a physician in 15 to 30 minutes, which we feel is a big convenience.”
UHS offers primary health care services, including general medicine, gynecology,
simple surgery and sport medicine to OSU students. It now also provides primary urgent
care services to faculty and staff.
UHS offers health education programming as well. Peer health education programs like Share the W.E.A.L.T.H and Wellness State are offered to provide students with information about important health issues relevant to college students, like nutrition, stress management, sexual health, alcohol education and communications.
“Share the W.E.A.L.T.H is available to any campus organization or living group, and Wellness State is directed specifically at freshman orientation classes,” said Rachel Shreffler, health education coordinator.
UHS offers special services to students, faculty and staff throughout the year. Students can receive free flu shots Wednesday, Oct. 12, in the Anne Morris Greenwood Reading Room on the second floor of the library from 8:30 a.m-12 p.m., while supplies last. They may also receive a flu shot at UHS during regular immunization hours between 8-11:30 a.m and 1-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Students can make a regular appointment online at www.okstate.edu/UHS or by phone at (405) 744-7665. Walk-in hours are also available on first-come first-served basis. UHS is open Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Faculty and staff can be seen during walk-in hours from 8-10 a.m. Monday-Friday or by scheduling appointment online or by phone.
