Congratulations to the Special Olympic Oklahoma Athletes for competing in this year's games
Happy trails to this year's Special Olympics Oklahoma Athletes! The games come to an end with closing ceremonies at the OSU track Friday morning with recognition of the 2012 award winners and extinguishing of the Special Olympics flame.
Special Olympics athletes socialized and danced as well as competed during the three day event, which included track and field athletics, bocce, bowling, golf, horseshoes, powerlifting, unified 3-on-3 basketball, and unified softball.
Even new athletes, ages 3 - 7, got the opportunity to learn about some of the sports by going through a dozen stations to recieve training in the events. The program, called the Stars of the Future, gives young athletes a chance to experience the fun and atmosphere of Special Olympics events. At the end of the day, the Stars take to the “big track” to show off what they have learned or to say, “Watch for us in the future!”
