Design students to showcase projects at 2012 Design Student Exposition: Juried exhibition planned for April 2

Thursday, March 29, 2012

The Department of Design, Housing and Merchandising in the College of Human Sciences at Oklahoma State University will hold the second annual Design Student Exposition from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Monday, April 2 in Taylor’s Dining Room, 2nd floor Human Sciences-West. The public is invited to the free display.

The exposition will feature selected student projects from a juried event for DHM undergraduate students. Apparel design and production and interior design sophomores, juniors and seniors who have been admitted to the professional program will submit one piece of work from the past year.

Eight professionals from the respective areas of practice will judge over one-hundred forty student projects with selected works displayed in the public showing. The judges for apparel design projects are Katie Campion, Katie Campion Consulting; Claire Kennedy, Claire Kennedy Designs; and David Caldwell, David D’Angelo Design.  Interior design projects will be judged by Sharon Richardson, Frankfort, Short, Bruza; Angie Clarkson, LWPB 50; Brett Logan, Logan+Designs; Lauren Fite, PSA Dewberry; and Kelli VanderMaas, Scott Rice.

“DHM undergraduate students admitted to the professional program in their area have met rigorous academic and design criteria,” said Christine Johnson, interim department head. “The submitted projects represent the developmental progression of these students.”

“We are showcasing our design students at all levels,” said Diane Limbaugh apparel design and production clinical instructor. “Projects like this inspire and challenge them to become acclimated to professional culture.”

The 2012 Design Student Exposition culminates the activities planned during Human Sciences Week March 26-30.

“This is a unique event for our students,” said Bill Beitz, clinical professor in the interior design program.  “It will bring together students, professionals, industry representatives and the public.”
