Gallery to unveil donated Doel Reed drawing Friday
The Gardiner Gallery will host an unveiling of a Doel Reed drawing that is being donated to OSU on Friday, Aug. 17, at 3:30 p.m. A reception in honor of Joe Greene and Dixie Anne Mosier-Greene will follow in the gallery on the first floor of the Bartlett Center. Joe, a longtime Stillwater resident, found the art piece in a dumpster.
Doel Reed was one of the longest running art department heads at OSU and laid much of the foundation to make the department what it is today. He is also unquestionably one of the most well-known faculty artists to work at Oklahoma State.
The gift of this artwork (called “Near Ledoux” created in 1967 with ink and conte crayon on paper) coincides with Dixie’s anniversary of 50 years at OSU. She arrived on campus in August of 1962 and has been affiliated with the university in some way ever since, most recently serving as a faculty member in the OSU Philosophy Department. Members of the campus and community are invited to celebrate Dixie’s contributions to OSU and recognize the Greene’s recent donation.
At the time of the reception, “The Influence of Oklahoma: Modernism from the Collection of Kelly Knowlton” will be on view in the gallery, which includes several additional works by Reed.
The Gardiner Gallery is located inside the Bartlett Center for the Visual Arts, which is on the southeast side of campus. The building is on Knoblock Street, approximately a block west of Eskimo Joe's. Click here to locate it (see building 123) on a campus map.
The gallery is fully accessible and open from 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information, please call 405-744-4143 or visit: www.facebook.com/GardinerArtGallery and museum.okstate.edu
More about the Gardiner Gallery
Opened in 1965, the Gardiner Gallery has become the central place for Oklahoma State University students and faculty to experience visual arts. It offers a range of exhibitions that stimulate active learning, research and teaching about art. The Gardiner Gallery is managed in close collaboration with the Department of Art. Each academic year, we organize a variety of programs, including artist talks, workshops and lectures by art historians and critics. All exhibitions and programs are offered free of charge to the community, designed for the education and enjoyment of all. The gallery serves as a gateway to the university experience and vibrant cultural landscape of central Oklahoma.
