Hallgren named OSU Fulbright program adviser
Steve Hallgren, associate professor in Natural Resource Ecology and Management, has been named the Oklahoma State University Fulbright program adviser. This position supports all the Fulbright programs for OSU students, faculty and administrators and the Boren Scholarship/Fellowship programs.
“While OSU had eight Fulbright recipients this year, its participation in the program is the lowest among similar institutions in the region including Big Twelve Conference Universities,” said Hallgren. “As the Fulbright program adviser, I hope to increase faculty and student participation in the Fulbright and Boren scholarship programs and make a significant contribution to OSU’s reputation and prestige as a major comprehensive university with a global reach.”
As adviser, Hallgren will provide the leadership in the OSU community to ensure students, faculty and administrators are competitive for international Fulbright and Boren awards.
The Fulbright Programs are the chief international exchange scholarship programs, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The Boren Undergraduate Scholarship and Graduate Fellowship are part of the National Security Education Program to encourage study of less commonly taught languages.
Hallgren said the Fulbright Program offers grants to study, teach and conduct research for U.S. citizens in over 140 countries. Awards are offered on a competitive basis
