Sandip Harimkar, assistant professor in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Oklahoma State University, has been selected as the 2013 TMS Young Leaders International Scholar-JIM Award recipient. This honor is jointly sponsored through The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) and the Japan Institute of Medals (JIM), and supports a collaborative research agenda.
The award is designed to honor a young member under the age of 40, who is active in bothpromoting and participating in the society activities.
Harimkar will represent TMS and JIM at the annual spring meeting at Tokyo University of Science in Kagurazaka, Tokyo. He will also take part in visits to the National Institute of Materials Science and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology in Japan.
In addition to this honor, Harimkar has also been recently selected as a National Science Foundation CAREER recipient. This $400,000 award is considered the NSF's most prestigious to support young faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of both.
"These are significant honors and we are proud of Dr. Harimkar's accomplishments," said Dr. Dan Fisher, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Head.
