"The House of Tudors" OSU Chamber Choir/Brass Concert

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

Dr. Z. Randall Stroope
OSU Chamber Choir/Brass present “The House of Tudors”

The OSU Chamber Choir, OSU Brass Ensemble and 52-voice Concert Choral will magically transport the audience to the time of the English Tudor dynasty during the reign of Henry VIII and others on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 8 p.m. in the First Christian Church on Duck Street.

“English music for royal and victorious occasions has always been a favorite of audiences and music critics alike,” said Dr. Z. Randall Stroope, conductor, who promises an exciting and fast-paced program.

The concert will be divided in two sections – one of music during the period of the Tudor dynasty, and the other featuring music of the descendants of the Tudor dynasty (present day English composers), according to Stroope.  The British National Anthem (“God Save the Queen”), music of Vaughan Williams, Parry and Benjamin Britten and music from the recent royal wedding will also be presented. Organist David Hughes, who has collaborated with the Concert Choral on several previous occasions will be featured on three works.

Tickets are $8 general admission and $6 for students and senior citizens, and will be sold at the door.  For more information, call 405-744-6013.

Reminder - Handel's "Messiah" coming soon...first rehearsal on Sunday

Many OSU faculty joined the large chorus of Handel's "Messiah" last year and faculty and staff volunteers are invited again this year, according to Z. Randall Stroope, conductor, who notes the 2011 performance was sold out several days in advance.  "With just five efficient rehearsals, faculty love to be a part of it, even if they haven't sung the choruses for a long time," said Stoope, who invites faculty and staff volunteers to help rekindle a tradition that unites a common spirit between people and gives pause for reflection and appreciation.

Please email zrandall.stroope@okstate.edu for an informational sheet with all of the details.  The first rehearsal is THIS Sunday afternoon (Oct. 28) at 3 p.m. in the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts.  All faculty and staff welcome - no audition is required.  Please email and let Dr. Stroope know you would like to be a part of it.
