Nine named to OSU doctoral program

The Oklahoma Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (OK-LSAMP) has announced that nine former LSAMP scholars have been selected to participate in the Bridge to the Doctorate Fellowship Program at OSU.

The program supports students academically and professionally in achieving advanced degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines. It also prepares them to meet the challenges of completing doctoral programs for possible academic careers in higher education and developing leadership skills to thrive in their respective fields. As fellows in the program, students are provided a stipend, financial support to cover the cost of education, and opportunities to participate in national and professional conferences.

Funded by the National Science Foundation, the program started in the State of Oklahoma in 2004 and has provided funding to 48 former LSAMP scholars to complete advanced degrees at OSU or the University of Oklahoma.  Dr. Mark Payton, Regents Service Professor of Statistics, serves as program director for both the bridge program and the Oklahoma Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation.
