Oklahoma State Greek Councils win big at leadership conference
Wednesday, March 7, 2012
Oklahoma State University’s Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council National
Pan-Hellenic Council and Panhellenic Council all brought home honors from the recent
Central Fraternal Leadership and National Black Greek Leadership Conference held in
St. Louis and hosted by the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values.
The Interfraternity Council, which is part of the IFC Division III for schools with
13- 20 men’s chapters, received recognition in two of the eight award categories:
Risk Reduction and Management and Self Governance and Judicial Affairs. The Multicultural
Greek Council, was recognized for their achievements in Academic Achievement and Council
Management and Public Relations.
The Panhellenic Council, a part of the Panhellenic Division III for schools with
8 to 12 women’s chapters, received recognition in all eight possible award categories:
Academic Achievement, Council Management, Leadership and Educational Development,
Membership Recruitment, Philanthropy and Community Service, Public Relations, Risk
Reduction and Management and Self-Governance and Judicial Affairs. This year the Panhellenic
Council came home with the Sutherland Award, which is the top award given to a Panhellenic
Council in the region for each division.
"In 2011, I watched the Panhellenic Executive Council do something truly significant,”
said Liz Osborne, the Coordinator of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs. “They not only
gave 110% in order to achieve every goal they set but also built lifelong friendships
with each other in the process. I'm so proud of them. The Sutherland Award is a great
honor to receive, but I know they are walking away from this experience with so much
more- the distinct feeling of accomplishment that can only come as a result of hard
work completed with sisters."
Abby McCollum, current Panhellenic President and former recruitment coordinator,
was able to see her hard work from last year pay off.
“I have never been more proud to be a member of the Panhellenic Association at OSU,”
McCollum said. “Being the one to accept such an outstanding award on behalf of the
community was very humbling. It took the work of the entire Panhellenic Executive
Council and this year’s Executive Council. It was very rewarding to see all the hard
work from 2011 pay off.”
OSU’s entire fraternity and sorority community was also recognized with the Gamma
Sigma Alpha Awards for the Spring 2011 and Fall 2011 semesters for having the highest
differential between the All Greek GPA and the All Non-Greek GPA in the Midwest Region.
OSU’s Greek Community has received this honor 13 times since 2004.
