OSU student wins regional competition

OSU student Austin Buchanan placed first in the Student Technical Paper Competition at the Institute of Industrial Engineers South Central Regional Conference held recently in Missouri.

Austin, a graduate with a B.S. from the School of Industrial Engineering and Management,  presented a paper he co-authored with fellow student Adrian Smith based on their senior design project titled “An Investigation into Instructor Staffing at Oklahoma State University Fire Service Training.” Buchanan will compete in the international competition set for Orlando in May. 

The South Central region includes IIE student chapters at 15 colleges and universities in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. IE&M students placed first in this prestigious regional competition in 2009, 2010, and OSU IE&M hosted the regional conference in 2011. The respective winners of 2009 and 2010 went on to place 3rd and 1st in the international competition. The IIE chapter website is at this link: http://orgs.okstate.edu/iie/
