OSU students qualify for nationals at annual competition
Two of the three OSU teams that competed recently at the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge in Tyler, Texas, qualified as finalists for the national competition. The qualifications were especially satisfying since OSU is the only college team in the nation competing against full-time firefighters at the regional contest.
“We’re all full-time students first and train on the side, so we’re especially pleased with our performance and look for our enrollment numbers to increase again this spring,” said Adam Hofman, Firefighter Combat Challenge Team president.
The challenge team divided into three teams for the competition, each attempting a series of firefighting challenges including high rise pack carry, hose hoist, forcible entry, hose advance and victim rescue. In order to qualify for nationals, a team must complete the relay race of tasks within two minutes. The OSU team now hopes to raise enough donations to return to Tyler next year, and possibly the national competition.
Team members include Chris Baldwin, Matthew Behrman, Cody Chaney, Wesley Deen, Shane Drury, Chris Foeller, Chris Gitch, Adam Hofman, Keagan Lacey, Tyler Lambert, Logan Lax, Ryan Lehnert, Shay Massey, Manny Orlich, Wade Prigmore, Tyler Recek, Brandon Roach, and Tim Thomas.
