OSU will ring library bells to honor Connecticut victims
Friday, December 21, 2012
The bells of Oklahoma State University's Edmon Low Library will ring in honor of the victims of the Connecticut elementary school shooting on the national day of mourning Friday.
"Our library stands as the central symbol of knowledge and higher learning on our campus," OSU President Burns Hargis said. "It is appropriate for the Oklahoma State University campus to join the nation in remembering those who were killed in a place that was supposed to be filled with educating children."
The library bells will toll 26 times beginning at 8:30 a.m. (9:30 a.m. EST). Friday, December 21 marks a week since 20 children and six teachers were gunned down at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy has invited the nation to join his state in a moment of silence tomorrow morning and has asked churches across the country to toll their bells 26 times in remembrance of the 26 people killed at the Newtown school.
