OSU's Spears School of Business offer business analytics webinar in May

Friday, March 30, 2012

To help show how analytics can assist businesses in decision-making and help them become more competitive and successful, the Department of Management Science and Information Systems and the Center for Executive and Professional Development in the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University present the “Demystifying Business Analytics” webinar series throughout May.

Dursun Delen, Spears Chair in Business Administration in the Department of Management Science and Information Systems, will conduct the webinar series. “The use of business analytics is becoming more prevalent in today’s world. If society understood just the basics of data and text mining, more businesses would see success,” Delen said.

The webinar series will provide  participants with an in-depth understanding of business analytics and its enabling technologies such as data mining, text and web mining, optimization, and simulation modeling. “The series consists of three new and exciting topics that are sure to have you wanting to know more about business analytics,” said Delen. Each webinar is one hour followed by question-and-answer sessions.

“Real-World Knowledge Discovery with Data Mining” is scheduled for May 8 from noon to 1:15 p.m. Participants will understand the definition and motivation for data mining using real world examples, learn the step-by-step process of conducting data mining projects, and become familiar with popular data mining methods and tools.

The second webinar, “Understanding Text and Web Mining,” will be from noon to 1:15 p.m. on May 15. Participants will learn processes applicable to text mining projects and understand the difference between data mining and text mining.

The final webinar of the series, “Prescriptive Analytics with Optimization and Simulation” is scheduled from noon to 1:15 p.m. on May 22. Applicants will understand the need for and the nature of prescriptive analytics, learn how to formulate and solve optimization type business problems, as well as learn how to develop and analyze simulation models for complex business problems.

Registration for the one-hour webinars, including the question-and-answer sessions, is $125 per session or $350 for all three sessions.
