Peter Sheahan, Leading Change Conference are both coming to Tulsa on May 1

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Peter Sheahan, founder and chief executive officer of ChangeLabs™, will be featured as the third and final speaker of the 2011-12 Tulsa Business Forums series. Sheahan is in good company as he joins Tony Blair, former Prime Minister of Great Britain, and Randi Zuckerberg, former head of marketing of Facebook and founder & CEO of R to Z Media, as other featured speakers in this year’s series.

Sheahan will speak at a luncheon from noon to 1:30 p.m. on May 1 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Tulsa. The Tulsa Business Forums are presented annually by Oklahoma State University’s Spears School of Business, and coordinated by the school’s Center for Executive and Professional Development.

Sheahan is known internationally for inspiring innovative business thinking and creating lasting behavioral change. In just three years, he built his multi-million dollar consulting practice by attracting clients such as Coca-Cola, L’Oréal, Apple, and IBM. Sheahan has also established himself as a highly successful entrepreneur.

He has delivered more than 2,000 presentations to more than 300,000 people in 15 different countries. In 2006, Sheahan was voted the National Speakers Association’s Keynote Speaker of the Year. He has since been named one of the 25 Hottest New Speakers in America and one of the 25 Most Influential Speakers in the industry. Sheahan is also the author of six books, including international bestsellers “Fl!P,” “Generation Y” and his latest “Making it Happen.”

“The most crucial thing for a leader to get right in times of change is the assumptions they are making unconsciously or consciously about what is changing, how fast it is changing and what they need to do about it,” Sheahan said. “Too often we blame leaders for not being open to change, when what is really happening is that they did not realize how quickly or how significant things were changing rather than not being open to it at all. Just ask the executives at RIM, past executives at Kodak and those involved in the music business at the turn of the century. They all knew things were changing, they just made poor assumptions about how quickly or how best to respond.”

Sheahan will address this and other pertinent insights on change during his visit to Oklahoma for the Tulsa Business Forums.

In conjunction with the Tulsa Business Forums with Sheahan, the Spears School’s Department of Management is also presenting a half-day Leading Change Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on May 1.

The first session, presented by Ken Eastman, associate professor and head of the department of management, will focus on energizing the need for change. Matt Bowler, associate professor in the department of management, will explore the process of forming change team leaders and how to leverage the energy of that team to spread the change excitement to all reaches of the organization.

The second session will include a panel of three Tulsa area business leaders who will discuss their experiences in assisting employees to recognize the need for change and building excitement and motivation for change. Panel members are David Littlefield, president and CEO of Littlefield Brand Development; Caron Lawhorn, president of ONEOK Distribution Companies, and Jeffrey C. Crippen, president and CEO of Omni Air International, Inc.

Registration for the Leading Change Conference and the Tulsa Business Forums luncheon is $195 per person, or $185 per person for five or more registrations from the same organization. Registration for the Leading Change Conference only is $135. Registration for the Peter Sheahan Tulsa Business Forums is $100 per person.
