Renowned biologist to deliver Sirny Lecture
Dr. Eugene Koonin, a world-renowned computational biologist, will present "Evolution of Viruses--New Unexpected Discoveries of Genomics and Metagenomics" for the Robert J. Sirny Lecture on Friday, April 13, at 4 p.m. in the Noble Research Center, room 106.
Koonin is senior investigator at the National Center for Biotechnology Information of the National Library of Medicine, within the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Md.
Koonin's presentation will reflect his extensive research on the virus world, and more generally, genomics and evolution. As a senior investigator for NCBI, he has conducted research on comparative and evolutionary genomics with prokaryotic and eukaryotic genomes, aiming to predict gene function on whole genome scale.
The Sirny Lecture at OSU attracts prominent researchers from across the country who have made significant contributions to science. This event is hosted by OSU's recent initiative, the interdisciplinary Center for Research Excellence in Science and Technology (iCREST) focused on Bioinformatics & Computational Biology.
