Oklahoma State University Air Force ROTC, Detachment 670, is hosting a benefit golf tournament on April 12 at the Lakeside Golf Course in Stillwater. The tournament will benefit the family of a fallen soldier in the Stillwater community and Detachment 670.
“The tournament cause this year is not only to benefit the cadet corps as a booster organization, it’s a way to payback the Stillwater people and the family of a fallen warrior, which is really near and dear to the hearts of military,” said Lt. Col. Jason Winslow. “All of us here have lost friends and some family since 9/11. It’s a heart-wrenching thing, and we want to do something for them.”
The golf tournament will begin a 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, at the Lakeside Golf Course in Stillwater. Registration begins at noon. The registration fee includes lunch, and all other green amenities. Individual registration fees are $50 and the registration fee for a foursome is $200. The event will include a four-person scramble and awards reception following the tournament.
Cadet Col. Preston Radford, who is helping to organize the tournament, said it is a way for the community to support the AFROTC and OSU and gain a better understanding of what the detachment does. “The golf tournament provides a quality social outlet for our cadets and the community to come together in order to gain a more personal understanding of each other,” said Radford. “It also promotes a clearer understanding of our mission here at OSU, which is to produce quality leaders for our military services.”
Cadet Fourth Class Hunter Blaine, who is also helping organize the tournament, said the AFROTC hopes to accomplish three goals by hosting the event, in addition to providing support to the family of a fallen warrior. “We want to generate revenue for the next semester of Air Force ROTC, to generate public interest in supporting the Air Force and military, and to create an annual tournament with community interest,” Blaine said.
