Students help market Honda coupe in competition

Some OSU marketing students have developed a campaign to promote the 2012 Honda Civic Coupe, which they plan to unveil on Tuesday, March 27, from 11:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. on the library lawn. Brighter Creations is the name of the student-run marketing agency that involves upper level marketing students who hope to increase awareness and purchase consideration for the coupe, while competing against counterparts at other schools.

The campaign is part of the Honda Civic Coupe Marketing Competition, a program that is giving OSU students real-world business experience through the design and implementation of an integrated marketing communications plan. “Doing the kind of work we’re studying about in class for a brand as respected as Honda is an incredible and challenging experience” said Van Alston, OSU senior and agency coordinator for Brighter Creations. “We’re doing things that most students only get to do after they’ve left the campus and are in the workforce.  It’s a priceless experiential learning opportunity that will help our entire team compete more effectively for jobs when we graduate.”

Twenty universities across the nation have student teams participating in the Honda Civic Coupe Marketing Competition.  At the conclusion of the competition, the top three universities will earn a trip to Honda’s U.S. headquarters to present the results of their efforts to Honda executives.

The Honda Civic Spring Break event will include a preview of the campaign on March 26th when the Pit Crew, representatives from the Brighter Creations PR team, will show the coupe by driving to different locations on acampus. Library lawn festivities on Tuesday will feature performances by The Admirals Band, OSU Step Team, OSU Women’s Volleyball Club, and an appearance from Pistol Pete. There will also be giveaways of gas cards, gift cards from local merchants, free food, and many more prizes. Find the hidden Honda logos throughout campus and tweet back @OSUHondaCivic and win prizes throughout the day of the event.
