First winners of the Remember the Ten Run Scholarship announced

The first Remember the Ten Run Scholarship winners will be recognized at 11 a.m. near the starting line for the memorial run on Saturday, April 21, at Mathews and Duck Streets in Stillwater. The ten recipients are all graduate students enrolled in some area of counseling at OSU. They include Kristen N. Dinneen, Andrew Dunkle, Jordan R. Hoffman, Matt R. Judah, Mary E. Miller, Elizabeth S. Molzon, Lindsay K. Murrell, Rachelle R. Ramsey, Raymond P. Tucker and Thomas W. Westerling. Each will receive a $1,000 cash scholarship with $500 being awarded in the fall and spring semesters.

The Remember The Ten Run is now an annual tradition held on the third Saturday in April to remember the ten members of the OSU family who died in a place crash in Colorado on January 27, 2001. Inspired by the Pickens Legacy Scholarship Matching (PLSM) program, the run’s steering committee seized the opportunity this year to fulfill a goal they had desired since the run’s inception – the creation of the scholarship.  Thanks to the unwavering support of the OSU Foundation, the Remember the Ten Scholarship Program was created to provide support to OSU masters and doctoral students enrolled in one of the following degree specialties: clinical psychology, counseling psychology, community counseling, and marriage and family therapy.

The scholarship is currently enrolled in the PLSM program and will qualify for 1.5 to 1 matching funds.  Once fully funded at $250,000, the steering committee hopes to continue awarding ten $1,000 scholarships each academic year.

In addition to the scholarship program, the steering committee will also continue its support of OSU Counseling Services, which has been the primary benefactor of the run, receiving $20,000 per year for the past five years to support work in the areas of grief counseling.

The steering committee invites the support of the OSU and Stillwater communities in raising not only awareness about the new scholarship program and the annual memorial run but also in carefully considering making a donation to support this wonderful cause.
