Wind ensemble concert to honor Dean Sherwood

The OSU Wind Ensemble will present its final concert of the spring semester Thursday, April 12, at 8 p.m. in the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall. The concert is being presented in honor and recognition of Dr. Peter Sherwood, retiring dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Special guest conductor Felix Hauswirth will open the program with "Canzon Septimi Toni No. 2" by Giovanni Gabrieli and "Overture for Harmoniemusik, Opus 24" by Felix Mendelssohn. Hauswirth is professor of conducting at the Basel Conservatory in Switzerland. Also joining the group will be Dr. John Seesholtz, assistant professor of voice, who will sing "Um Mitternacht" by Gustav Mahler. Repertoire will also include "Hommage a Rameau" by Claude Debussy and conclude with Modest Mussorgsky's masterwork "Pictures at an Exhibition."

The finest graduate and undergraduate wind and percussion performers at the university make up the ensemble, which is dedicated to the performance of the most noted wind literature, regardless of period or disposition of forces. The concert is under the direction of Dr. Joseph Missal.

Admission to the concert is $8 for adults/$6 for students and senior citizens. All proceeds benefit the OSU Department of Music.
