World renowned pianist to present free master class and recital
World renowned pianist Anton Nel will play a free solo recital of works by J.S. Bach and others on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 2:30 p.m. in the concert hall of the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts. The performance is free and open to the public, as is a master class Nel will present with OSU student performers on Saturday from 7 – 9 p.m. in the concert hall..
A native of South Africa, Nel has performed in concert with the Cleveland Orchestra, the symphonies of Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Detroit, London and many more. As a recitalist, he has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Queen Elizabeth and Wigmore Halls in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, to name a few. He won first prize in the 1987 Naumburg International Piano Competition at Carnegie Hall.
Nel is Priscilla Pond Flawn Regents Professor of Piano and Chamber music at the University of Texas at Austin, where he heads the division of keyboard studies. A favorite at summer festivals, he has performed at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago, at Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival, and at the music festivals of Aspen (where he is on the artist-faculty), Vancouver, Cartagena, and Stellenbosch.
