Annual Juried Student Exhibition at gallery
The Gardiner Gallery is currently hosting the 2013 Annual Juried Student Exhibition. All contest entries are from students currently enrolled in studio or graphic design classes in the OSU Art Department.
For studio art, this exhibition includes drawings, paintings, prints, watercolors, photographs and compositions from 2D design. The diverse styles range from academic realism to expressive abstraction achieved through a creative approach and technique. The three-dimensional entries use a wide range of materials and innovative process as well, from the time honored traditions of metal-smithing to assemblages with found objects. Works on view show impressive creativity and facility with the medium that, whether orthodox or not, are considered primarily important.
The graphic design work also covers a range of disciplines, including illustration, graphic design and motion graphics. The works reflect a faculty that clearly appreciates the importance of fundamentals in traditional design areas, yet also understands the need to embrace technology and its role in the creative process. The works chosen display success in strong conceptual nature, skillful execution and thoughtful presentation. The works selected for awards reflect the essential qualities that many artists will respect. Each one has a definite personal voice that is expressed in a unique and well-executed manner.
Debby Williams, director of Oklahoma Art in Public Places, will serve as the juror of studio art. Brad Bollinger, senior creative director for the Fossil Watch Division of Fossil, Inc., will review graphic design submissions. The exhibit will be featured in the gallery through April 30.
The Gardiner Gallery is fully accessible and located on the first floor of the Bartlett Center for the Visual Arts. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday; 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. The gallery is closed on Sundays and University holidays.
