Humphreys help students experience study abroad

Don and Cathey Humphreys recently spent an evening visiting with students at Oklahoma State University who’ve received study abroad scholarships funded by the couple. The pair heard straight from the Humphreys Scholarship recipients about their long-term study abroad experiences and the students expressed their appreciation for the opportunities the scholarships provide.

Don Humphreys rose to the title of senior vice president and treasurer during his career at ExxonMobil. He has been honored as a member of the halls of fame for OSU alumni, the Spears School of Business, and the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology. His career included a four-year period when he, Cathey and their family lived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where they developed a deep appreciation for the challenges and rewards of living and conducting business across different cultures, geographies, and political systems. It was also the first study abroad experience for their three daughters, and reinforced the value of learning outside their own culture.

Since that international experience, the Humphreys have supported the OSU Study Abroad Program, which is coordinated by the School of International Studies in the Division of International Studies and Outreach. The Humphreys' gift also funds several endowed faculty chairs as well as the study abroad scholarships.
