Lecture focuses on illustrated medieval manuscripts

open to the public

Jennifer Borland, associate professor of medieval art and architecture, will present “Domesticating Knowledge: Household Health and the Late Medieval Illustrated Manuscripts of the Regime du corps” on Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in room 104 at Bartlett Center for the Visual Arts. This talk will explore the images found in several illustrated copies of the Régime du corps, a late medieval health guide written by the physician of an ambitious French countess. These luxuriously-decorated books, likely intended for use by noblewomen managing their households, are filled with dynamic, sometimes arresting scenes rendered with abundant color and gold. The talk is free and open to the public. For more information, click here
