Thursday, March 14, 2013
Television journalist Tom Brokaw will be the featured speaker during visits Tuesday,
April 2, to Tulsa and Oklahoma City as the third and final installment of the 2012-13
Oklahoma State University Spears School of Business speaker series.
Brokaw will present “The Voice of a Generation” during the Tulsa Business Forums
from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Mabee Center.
The longtime NBC television journalist also will speak from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Civic
Center in downtown Oklahoma City during the Executive Management Briefings, which
is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
Each year, the forum series showcases prominent business, political and world leaders,
authors and policymakers to the Tulsa and Oklahoma City business communities. Both
the Tulsa Business Forums and the Executive Management Briefings are coordinated by
the Center for Executive and Professional Development at Oklahoma State University.
Brokaw has spent his entire distinguished journalism career with NBC News, joining
in 1966. He is the only person to host all three major NBC News programs, including
“The Today Show,” “NBC Nightly News,” and “Meet the Press.” He now serves as a Special
Correspondent for NBC News.
Beginning in the Los Angeles bureau, he covered topics including Ronald Reagan’s
first run for public office, the assassination of Bobby Kennedy and the 1968 presidential
campaign.
For the Watergate scandal, Brokaw moved to the nation’s capital as the White House
correspondent and backup anchor of “NBC Nightly News.” After his stint in Washington,
D.C., he moved to New York to work as a “TODAY” anchor, then as a managing editor
of “NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw,” where he anchored from 1982 until 2004.
Aside from the anchor desk, Brokaw produced NBC specials and documentaries, including
“The Greatest Generation Speaks” based on one of his books, one of the most popular
nonfictions of the 20th century, “The Greatest Generation.”
Brokaw has won every major award in his craft, including Peabodys, Duponts, Emmys
and lifetime achievement recognition.
