Friday, August 16, 2013

The 2013 freshman class at Oklahoma State University received its official welcome to campus today from OSU President Burns Hargis during new student convocation at 4 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Students continue to enroll for the upcoming school year, but the current new freshman class stands at around 3,900.  While OSU had the largest freshman class in state history of 4,289 last year, the academic achievement of this class is higher in several key areas:

·      29.6% have an ACT of 27 or higher (29.2% 2012)

·      16.1% have a 4.0 high school GPA (15.1% 2012)

·      27.9% were in the top 10% of their high school class (27.6% 2012)

Additional highlights regarding the new freshmen class:

·      65% come from Oklahoma

·      49 states are represented (all but Rhode Island)

·      26% minority students

·      Average ACT of 25.1

·      304 Valedictorians

·      17% are first-generation college students

“I’m always excited to welcome new students to the OSU campus as they begin the pursuit of a college degree and all that it promises,” said OSU President Burns Hargis.  “We are pleased to have another strong academic class.”

“Total enrollment remains strong,” Hargis said.  “I believe the growing numbers are a direct response to the quality of the education, the value and the incredible student experience OSU offers.”

Total enrollment for the combined OSU-Stillwater and OSU-Tulsa campuses currently stands at around 25,300.  If recent trends hold, enrollment for the combined campuses should eclipse last year’s total of 25,544.
