OSU attempts to break Guinness World Record

Monday, April 15, 2013

High school juniors and their families will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for most people wearing fake mustaches at Oklahoma State University’s Junior Day event on April 20.

The OSU Office of Undergraduate Admissions will provide Pistol Pete mustaches for prospective students, guests, staff and current students to wear at the event. The mustache was originally created for prospective students to take photos and submit on Twitter (@BeAnOSUCowboy) and Facebook (Be an OSU Cowboy).

A group photo will be taken in Gallagher-Iba Arena during the welcome session between 10:30-11 a.m. as part of the OSU Junior Day welcome session.

“The Pistol Pete mustaches have been a huge hit with students at college fairs and high school visits,” said Kyle Wray, OSU vice president for Enrollment Management and Marketing. “We have more than 800 high school juniors registered for our event on April 20, and with their guests, we believe we will break the world record. These students will have the opportunity to participate in a record-breaking day at OSU.”

Juniors can visit admissions.okstate.edu/jrday to learn more and register for the event.

The record was most recently broken, pending certification, with 1,544 people wearing fake mustaches at an annual laugh festival in Grand Rapids, Mich., in March.

Many OSU alumni, current students, fans and family members will also get in on the action as mustaches are provided at various locations as part of Stillwater’s Legends Weekend, including an OSU Alumni Association photo booth, at the Eskimo Joe’s Tailgate and the OSU spring football game.
