OSU Automation Society wins 2013 Excellence Award
Tuesday, June 25, 2013
The Automation Society of OSU, an interdisciplinary engineering group of graduate students, received the 2013 Section Excellence Award recognition from the International Society of Automation (ISA).
The OSU section includes students from several engineering disciplines who are pursuing research interests related to control, robotics, vision, automation, modeling, recognition and optimization. Most of the student members are involved with automation research, including chemical and electrical process control, intelligent systems, mechanical control and event detection.
“There are about 150 professional and 160 students sections within ISA. Being the one section from all 310 to receive the Section Excellence Award is an outstanding achievement,” says Russ Rhinehart, professor in the School of Chemical Engineering.
The ISA Section Excellence Award recognizes an ISA section for development and execution of programs to advance the mission of the society, and is given to one section annually.
Supporting this recognition is the growth in members and the broad impact of their activities. Since its founding in 2010, it has grown to about 70 members. In 2013, the students organized an Automation Day, automation contest, poster contests, networking events, guest presentations, field trips, newsletter and a website to promote awareness of automation as a career choice and research focus.
Section president, Upasana Manimegalai-Sridhar will receive the award on behalf of all section leaders during the 2013 ISA Automation Week conference in Nashville, TN, this November.
