Celebrate Native American Heritage month

OSU to celebrate Native American Heritage Month on campus

Native American Heritage month will be celebrated with an authentic teepee, a blessing ceremony and lunch on the North Murray lawn at Oklahoma State University on Thursday, Nov. 14, from noon – 1:20 p.m. Evan White, a student of OSU’s Clinical Psychology Program, and his family will be providing the teepee for the celebration. The event is free and open to the public.

“This celebration of Native American Heritage Month is in honor of all the Native American students who attend OSU. We are proud to say that OSU continues to be one of the nation’s leaders in granting bachelor and doctoral degrees to Native American students in a variety of fields.” said Dr. John M. Chaney, director of American Indians Into Psychology program and American Indian Studies.

November has been recognized as Native American Heritage month since 1990, when U.S. President George H.W. Bush issued a formal declaration establishing the observance.

The event is sponsored by the OSU Psychology Diversified Student Program, the American Indians into Psychology Program and the OSU American Indian Studies Program.

PDSP’s mission is to increase the number of minorities and disabled in the field of psychology. PDSP and AIIP are both special programs of the OSU Psychology Department.  For more information about the event, contact Patricia Alexander, patricia.alexander@okstate.edu, (405) 744-7591.
