OSU recognizes facilities with $1 million in energy savings

Three facilities on the Stillwater campus of Oklahoma State University have reached the $1 million mark in energy savings. The buildings are the Advanced Technology Research Center, Boone Pickens Stadium and the Wes Watkins Center for International Trade Development. 

This milestone is part of a system-wide savings of more than $22 million since OSU’s Energy Conservation Program began in July 2007. 

The majority of the savings in energy costs is due to the modification of heating and air conditioning systems to run on an “as needed” basis and changing the behaviors of employees and students.  

“It is because our faculty, staff and students have embraced our energy conservation program that the university has been able to see such a huge savings in energy costs,” said OSU President Burns Hargis. 

Working with the OSU Energy Conservation Program, faculty, staff and students have made concentrated efforts to reduce energy usage in their offices, labs, workspaces and living areas. By embracing the university’s energy conservation guidelines each person on campus has contributed to the reduction of energy usage as a conscientious energy consumer and conserver. 

The facilities are receiving plaques to recognize the $1 million in energy savings.
