OSU Veterinary Center to Host 5th Annual Lundberg-Kienlen Lecture

Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences will host the 5th
Annual Lundberg-Kienlen Lecture on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 1:15 p.m. in McElroy Hall
Auditorium located at the corner of McFarland and West Farm Road on the OSU Stillwater
campus. Guest speaker will be Michael Matthay, M.D., with the Cardiovascular Research
Institute at the University of California in San Francisco, Calif.
Matthay will present “Mesenchymal Stromal (Stem) Cells: Biology and Potential Therapeutic
Value for the Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome.” The lecture is open to the public
at no charge.
“Dr. Matthay will be sharing his bench-to-bedside experience on adult stem cell therapies
of lung diseases during his talk,” explains Lin Liu, Ph.D., Regents Professor, Lundberg-Kienlen
Professorship in Biomedical Research and the director of the Lung Biology and Toxicology
Laboratory in the veterinary center’s Department of Physiological Sciences. “We are
very fortunate to have him here to present the 5th Lundberg-Kienlen Lecture.”
Matthay is currently a professor in the Department of Medicine and Anesthesia. He
studied at Harvard University and then the University of Pennsylvania. He provides
editorial services for numerous publications including Nature Medicine and New England
Journal of Medicine. Matthay has received many honors and awards including Honora
Causa, University of Paris in 2011.
The 5th Annual Lundberg-Kienlen Lecture is hosted by Dr. Lin Liu through the Lundberg-Kienlen
Professorship in Biomedical Research and co-sponsored by the Oklahoma Center for Adult
Stem Cell Research, Oklahoma Center for Respiratory and Infectious Diseases, and Interdisciplinary
Program in Regenerative Medicine at OSU.
